I have a 350 vortec motor in and s10 pickup.
So far i have: Headers 2 2/1 in pipe all the way back Flowmaster 40 series mufflers cam specs are avd duration 292in/ex, .488lif in/ex flat top lifters, lobe sep 114 Edelbrock performer intake manifold, 600cfm edelbrock carb Stock hei ignition with vac adv curve kit Crane cams valvesprings
Trans/ Rear end 700r4 stock stall Vette servo street shift kit Z-28 camaro rear end 3:73 posi
Now if i was trying to shoot for more horsepower where should i aim. I was thinking msd ignition, maybe stall, I also have some extra vortec heads if i should do some work there. Maybe roller rockers. better carb but what is too big. I just need to know what are my options for more power. Thanks

I'd go with modified heads. That's where the power is! If you 'need' an MSD, then get one when you run out of HEI. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. A 600cfm may be too small, depends on how long you stay at 6500rpm. A stall may be great for the launch, by honestly, it's an S-10. Can you spell wheelspin?
Here's my advice: Phase in the cam, right where the manufacturer says to. It makes a HUGE difference if it's not right. Don't use 'unknown' used parts i.e. carb, dist. Do a garage port job on your heads if you can tackle it. Balance the bottom end. Make sure you have enough compression for the lopey cam you picked, that means measuring and calculating not what is published in the catalogue. Good luck.

That is great advice. Dont be so quick to buy a bunch of aftermarket hocus-pokus. The real power lies in a solid shortblock, accurate cam - comp. ratio combination, and cylinder heads. When the formula is correct between these components, it just cant be beat! Personaly, the cam pick is too large in duration for good low - mid range torgue. I dont know what your intended RPM range is? What is DUR. @ .050?

Hey guys - I got a 4bolt main 350 engine out of a 72 Chevy pickup sitting here. I just picked up a 84 Monte Carlo LS that will be my next street/strip project. I work at a wrecking yard and have been debating for a little while on whether or not to try and do an LS1 install. My goal is to go 12's at the track - pretty minimal goal I guess. None the less anyone got any surefire setups for me to go for using this old 72 engine? Gotta be budget friendly of course - I wanna go fast for as little as possible. Would want something that would handle a shot of NOS also.....thanks!
