I am 19 years old, and my grandfather left me a 1963 Chevy C-10 with a 230 straight 6. It is in mint condition. It has a hole in the exhaust pipe, at the back of the truck and we are going to replace them soon, what I was wondering is if there is a way for me to make it sound tough, if you know what I mean. I want to go with flowmasters, but is it possible with that year model?

Anything is possible. Just measure the pipe, and get the mufflers. I am not impressed with the Flowmaster sound, at least the 50 series. They build a strong, well designed muffler, but the sound is weak. Going to look for a tougher sound for my next project. Maybe a Flowmaster 44. Good luck!

Well how about glass packs and other things like that? I want to know what the best option to take would be.

Glass packs are just that, packed with fiberglass that gets clogged, wears out, and gets really noisy. Flowmaster, like I said, has a great design( no fiberglass to worry about), just not happy with the sound of the 50 series DeltaFlow. There are some other companies that make excellent mufflers, but you never know really how their going to sound till it's installed on your application ( pipe lenght, diameter, contour, ect.ect). You should find a web site where you can hear sound samples, not the most reliable, but it will give you an idea. Let me know if you find such a site, so I can check it out. Thanks JW.

I have a 69 Nova with the 230 in it and I have split headers I am putting on it and I am going to go with flowmasters, but not for sure which series to put on. I am thinking either the 40 series or 44 series.

I have a 1968 chevy 250 that I have reworked exstensively. You will not get much of a sound from a stock 230. These engines run like sewing machines stock but can be built to run like V8. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t7vrATJRpF0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t7vrATJRpF0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I will check those videos out as soon as I can. Right now I am in a computer lab that has no sound. I am planing on building the motor up soon. I found someone that had the clifford Research split headers and bought those. What all do you have done to your 250? I am thinking about doing fuel injection on my 230....
