New to this so pardon my ignorance. I have a Qjet carb on my chevy 454. The engine runs great at idle. As soon as I push the throttle the engine stops running, just dies completely. Any one with suggestions would be awsome.  

Accelerator pump is shot. With engine off, pull the air cleaner and look down the primary barrels while you pull the throttle open. If little or no fuel sprays, then you know for shure.  

i agree ... but what else was done to it...    do you have a timing light to hook over a spark plug wire to see if the ignition system dies out before the motor stops turning but after it cuts out.. ....

did you  rebuild the carb????   did someone mess with the vacuum hoses???

post what year it is...   what modifications you have made...  what the carb number is...   driver side of the carb behind the throttle lever... 170XXXXXXXX

try unplugging the vacuum advance and see if it still dies...
