Anyone catch the June 08 article about the "budget ls buildup"? I am considering something similar to this for a street/strip 1984 Monte Carlo project. I wanna mainly have a Saturday night drag car but retain the streetability. Anyone done this yet? I'm specifically wondering about what type of transmission setup to run. I work at a wrecking yard and am very suprised at how affordable these 5.3L and 6.0L engines are but don't know anyone who has tried to make them work in an older type application. Also curious about the steps needed to get this thing to run correctly. Should I get a wiring harness and computer setup complete with the motor that I start with? I also own a 68 Chevelle with a tired 327 so if this projects gets me the results that I'm hoping maybe that project will be on the horizon also with a LS swap! HELP!

For drag racing, I'd get a 700R4 to bolt behind your 6.0L
Making an LS motor work in an older car is easy. You can either keep the FI system and get a control harness from FAST or similar company, or go carb and either use the front mount distributor kit from GM or get an ignition system that'll use the stock coil packs and reluctor wheel to fire the ignition.
