I am an 18 year old with an '84 Camaro. so clearly since the car is older than myself i'd like some advice. I'm building a 305 from scratch. I have stock heads, pistons, crank, lifters and manifolds. Ive collected full roller rockers, an aftermarket cam( which i know nothing about yet so i may switch to a stock one i have), an edelbrock performer rpm intake, a Holley 600cfm street carb. The car has a 700-R4 and a 3.23 differential. I am also looking into getting a cheap set of ceramic headers. Any advice on this build?

Not a bad start to a first project. A lot of guys are gonna say build a 350 instead, if you have the money do it, if not, make do with the 305.
Cam selection is gonna be critical. You need to find out the specs on the cam you've got.

Ok so i found the specs on the cam, and is a pretty mild cam. it has intake and exhaust lift of 0.3027 its says good gas mileage but considering its an 8 cyl that doesnt really matter. Next question, i have a GM dual roller timing chain set, and the crank shaft gear comes with 3 seperate timing settings. One is straight up, the other ones retard or advance the timing by 4 degrees respectively... which to choose? this will be mostly city driving or mild highway.. so idont want to advance it too much, also for top end performance i have the overdrive in the 700-r4.
