Any power gain you might have, wont be realized with stock exhaust manifolds. To make power, the fuel-air mixture must be able to get out as fast as it can get in. Also, what comp. ratio do you have. You may have made the classic mistake of camming too big. Cylinder pressure is lost, due to a late intake closing point, and low speed torque is lost. As far as the timing goes, you need a gun for some experementation. I would start around 8-10deg. BTDC. You may very well need more, but that is a good place to start. Indexing the plugs assures that the ground strap is not shrouding the mixture-spark path. Every little bit helps. Good luck, I hope this helps. JW454

Sorry, I just realized that you have headers. Please disregaurd the first part of my response. If you can find the specs. on that camshaft, please print them. Also do you know the cc's on your cylinder heads?

Indexing on a mild street motor doesn't really do that much. Full on race engines see more from indexing.
As for timing, it's gonna be near impossible to get it right without a light. The best thing you can do, bring the number one piston to top dead center, then install the distributor with the rotor pointing towards number one cylinder, put the cap on, install the number one wire on that spot, and install the rest of the wires form there. This will make your timing set at Zero advance, this should get you running well enough to get the car someplace to have the timing set correctly.

I just read the general specs. on your cam, and I dont think you will be happy with it. Did not see dur.@.050, or LSA. in the specs. Look at your cam card, and print them. Do you know what pistons and heads you have? Unless you raised compression, your low and mid-range power is out the window with that cam. Print everything you know about that engine, and go from there.

Go on Lunati web site to find your cam. I just found it in the Jegs book. Part#638-0010lk (bracket master 2), and unless your running up to 6000rpm, with about 10:1 comp. ratio, it wont work well. But you can find the detailed specs. on Lunati web site. Im shure if you talked to one of their tech,s, they would agree. A lot of honest info is needed to pick a perfect cam. That's why I said to print everything you can find out about your engine, trans, rear gears, intended use. And unlike what someone commented earlier, every little thing you do, to add a little power here and there, adds up after a while. Just ask for suggestions. JW.
