ok scratch my last post, i had discovered a vaccum leak, and thats why it was dying. The real question at hand is this, I swapped rearends on my 78 camaro. went from 2.73 to 3.42. since then my tranny is is topping out in the gears way too quick, runnin at higher rpms almost like i need a 4th gear(its a th350), and my speedometeris says i'm going 15 to 25 mph more than i am( by the way is there a way to adjust this?). will the 2500 stall converter help this or do i need another tranny with more gears? or is there a way to adjust it?
engine is a 400sbc, torker intake, holley 600, summit cam and lifter set- specs:

None of this has to do with the engine. The reason your are topping out on third gear is because the rear end ratio is too high for the 3 gears that are in the transmission. If you put in a automatic transmission with a 4th and/or 5th gear over drive your rpms would drop some more and make it more driveable. For a solution to the speedometer problem cars now-a-days are equipped with sensors connected to the rear brakes that take into affect rim height, tire height, and transmission gears then calculates all that to send the gauges in the dash your exact speed. I am not sure that they make a retro-fitted sensor like that but if anyone had them summitracing would check there to see if they have any.

Fixing the speedo problem is easy. You have to swap the gear in the trans that spins the speedo cable for one that is matched to your rear gear. The aftermarket has them. This is the same if you swap in a later model, non electronic 700-R4 or 200-4R.
