ok i have a few questions
i have a 350 sbc bored .30 over with stock heads and a 390/480 cam i have a stock gm alluminum intake off a 1980 corvette with a holley q-jet replacements type carb...

1.when i ran stock tires on my truck it would burn out very good when i punched it i am now running a much lower profile tire that is wider which now it will hardly spin them..my questions is am i better off with the taller tires (stock) is it messing with my gear ratio to where it is slower take off but more top speed ialso heard running smaller tires will cut my gas mileage down its on a 1982 chevy silverado half ton 2wd...

2. what do i need to set my rocker arms to .15 with a feeler gauge?

3. what do i need to set the accelerator pump with a feeler gauge?

4.What should my timing be set to with a 390/480 cam for best performance?

5.where is a good place to start when adjusting my holley idle mixture screws

6.i have a th350 trans and it has a lockup converter on it would it be good to hook this up and if so how?

7. when i punch the throttle and kick in my last gear it makes the belt squeel for a sec then shifts why is this.

8.do i need to run a bigger gap in my spark plugs running a bigger cam like my 390/480

all answers would be highly appreciated thank you for your time

If the tire is taller it will take some gear away and if the tires are a softer compound then the tires you had on it before then it will be harder to spin them.

Is the cam a solid lifter cam or a hydrolic lifter cam. for the timing set initial @12 degrees and turn the screw all the way in until it's slightly seated then turn it 1 full turn out. I would gap the plugs at .045.

i think it is solid not 100% sure so car tires are softer than truck tires....my timing now is set @ 45 degrees is that why when i punch it its kinda dead :/

#3   you set the holley accelerator pump lever with a feeler gauge when the engine off and the throttle held wide open...  this is when you ajust it with a feeler gauge in it...  so you get max pump travel... without bottoming out the pump diaphram.

#5    every performance holley i have ever ajusted ended up between 1/2 and 3/4th of a turn out..   idle mixtures really effect fuel economy... as they add fuel to the primary air flow....   if you think they don't look at a circle track car going around the corner...  the throttles are closed... the flame out the pipes is fuel being drawn in through the idle circuits do to the high vacuum...

#6   i seem to recall that the TCC is the weak part of the TH350L...  the lock up parts in stock converters are not strong enough to handle a lot more than a stock motor...

#7   when you punch the throttle in second or third. you are downshifting from the higher gear to the next lower gear.... when the car reaches a certain speed the trans will upshift... it is designed that way...

this is done through the downshift cable on the TH350L..   other gm trans have a throttle valve cable.. 200,700  those control the line pressures in the trans with the throttle opening..  on a th350 you can change the kickdown kick in by changing the cable casing ajustement..   on any other gm trans... it will cook the trans in blocks...  if not in the first block...

#8    most high energy ignition systems can support a .045" gap...   lets more fuel air mix between the electrodes... less chance of a misfire..   dont forget there is also a gap between the tip of the rotor and the sparkplug wire contacts in the cap...    running a quality cap and making sure there is no shaft play will ensure a tighter clearance and less gap to jump...

it is really hard to measure cap and rotor gap...  you have to destroy a cap by drilling holes in it..  and you have to verify that it is the same dimension before doing so...  lots of work...
