okay everyone i talk to about my motor say i need to get rid of my cam that is 390/480(this is all i know about this) and get the biggest rv cam for a 350 but i have no idea where to find them can anyone please help

there is a problem in my mind with Rv cams.. they were designed in the 70's.. for 55 mph.... i had a customer who wanted one.. and demamded it... he got it... and 11 mpg... it would run out of cam at 65 mph... the RV grind a was an H131
i use reground cams in my rebuilt motors.. i had used an H230 grind in several other motors with great results.. so i popped that in... the owner raved about how great it ran... went up to 17 mpg and he could run it over 85... this was in a 78 E150 with a 351 *** loaded to 6700 pounds everyday..
so it is just my advice to not go to a rv grind...
sorry i don't remember the cam specs.. i lost the last card i had a long time ago..
the 67 396 bbc i put it in idled at so high a vacuum it would open the diverter valve at idle in gear...
this is just my opinion after 30 years of fixing cars for a living..

I would recomend a lunati cam & lifters p#00016LK witch will give you good low end torq.

Im going through the same thing right now, but a few steps ahead of you. I have learned that the biggest RV cam that you want to put in without changing anything is a cam that has 426 intake and 488 exhaust with a duration of 224-234. This cam is supposed to be the biggest that you would want to go with. Just about any name brand is supposed to be good at this size. You can get it at O'Reillys or Auto zone or pretty much anywhere. If you are looking for low end torque and you have no other modifications to the engine, the most important factors are lobe seperation angle, which should be in the range of 110-114 deg. and duration @ .050, which should be in the range of 205-220 and no more! Look for valve lifts with stock heads in the range of .460-.480. Moderate lift with short duration and a wide lobe seperation will keep cylinder pressure high and produce good low and mid range torque. You can always call a reputable cam manufacturer, give them all your specs and they will get you real close to ideal. JW.
