My 88 Iroc-z needs help badly I was thinking about rebuilding or replacing the motor and someone told me that they do not made that motor any more and that I would have to upgrade to the LS1 motor, is that possible. I know that I would have to change the wiring harness, but what about the transmission? please let me know something, anybody.

lies lies all lies.. they still make new crate motors of your small block chevy... there are millions of them available to be rebuilt... it is the most hot rodded motor of all time... there are more aftermarket parts sold for your small block chevy than any other motor...
there are so many parts available... you don't even have to use a gm part to build one...
aftermarket blocks, heads, intakes, exhaust, valve covers, oil pans, cranks, rods, pistons, bolts,,, harmonic balancer, dizzys..
if your engine need repairs... have it looked at first... it might just need a good tune up or just normal upkeep..
i cannot say how many motors were replaced do to a single part being bad.. like a dizzy rotor.. how many of you know that they burn through ... if you don't take it off and change it once in a while .. 30K to 40 K miles..
the ignition coils even go bad... reducing power....
spark plug wires dont have any wire in them.... they have carbon powder or strips over a fiberglass strand.. how many thousand lightening bolts from the coil can they withstand.. sometimes 20 years worth... then the resistance goes up... it takes more voltage to get down that wire and things go bad from there.. coils leaking high voltage through their sides... rotors burning.. cap terminals corroding..
is your check engine light on????? while the engine is running???
that needs to be checked first... but it wont show if you have worn out parts..

Who ever told you that lied and would not let them touch the car.In my opinion the LS engines suck don't like them and would not own one. What size engine do you have. What is the engine doing that it needs a rebuild.

Next time you see that person, cold *** them in the jaw for feeding you such a steaming pile of BS!
The 88 IROC was the second year the 350 had returned to the Camaro in the 3rd generation! (Unless your car's a convertible)
So, you can build up a killer 350 that'll drop right in place fo your original motor. Build a nice 355 with aluminum heads, a good hydraulic roller cam, and ecent compression, you could have a 300+ HP motor that'll make your IROC fun to drive.
Your other option is a 350 crate motor.
