Hello all. I have a 67 impala wagon, and i am planning to replace the suspension in the next 2 weeks. It's mushy, it handles very badly and I am looking to upgrade. I'm somewhat of a newbie, so I don't know which parts I should upgrade, and which I should just replace. I know I want to go with stiffer coils and better shocks, but what are your thoughts on performance tie rod ends, adjusting sleeves, etc. Also, the application for performance parts seems to be limited to A and G body, any additional tweaks in need to do in order to make application of a kit work for a wagon?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

the suspention on wagons is the same as the sedans and coupes..  the only difference is the spring rates...

better shocks....       try something like a KYB...  that should stiffen it up a bunch... about  50 each...     try this before going to a firmer spring rate... you might just be happy...

what size is you sway bar//??    diameter...  stick an ajustable wrench over it .  measure the opening after you pull it off...  unless you have wrenches. up to one inch or so...

they make thicker sway bars... they also make rear sway bars...

sway bars reduce body roll in corners...

wheel alignment makes a huge difference in handling ... after you get the shocks on... and make sure there are not any worn parts...   (worn as in not worn out..)

there are a lot of parts to replace.. to get rid of worn parts...

before you tear it all apart...  take it in for an estimate to a front end shop.. someone who does wheel alignments...   don't let them take it apart...  just get a written estimate... take it to several different shops...  get estimates from all of them... compare them... see it they all list the same parts....  many times on cars of this age.. parts have already been changed...

parts that may need to be changed...   upper control arm bushings..  upper and lower ball joints..   lower control arm bushings..    strut rod bushings..   sway bar mounting bushings..  sway bar end link bushings..      idler arm, inner and outer tie rod ends.. center drag link, pitman arm,

start with shocks first...  they go on in minutes... and totally control the ride...

everything else keeps the tires pointing front and in alignment..

oh... and if you are thinking of changing the suspension to something else...   you have it wrong...     there is nothing wrong with that type of suspension..
