I bought this car about 7 months ago and when I bought it there was no SS badging on it whatsoever.  But upon looking through some of the documentation from the original dealer it says the car is a Malibu SS 396.  As far as I can tell it's legitimate documentation, but I can't find anything on Chevy ever offering a Malibu SS 396 option package in 1969, any help would be appreciated

Beyond looking up the numbers, some other clues to tell if the car was an S396.

1. Does it have a 12-bolt rear? All SS396 '69s had 12-bolts.

2. Does it have front disc brakes? If no, then it's not a true SS396.  

It has a twelve Bolt, and it has the disc brakes, and I have taken it to an appraisal shop, where they ran the numbers and they said it came out as a Malibu, but they also said the engine is a numbers matching motor and it comes out as a 350 396, and on the build sheet "SP396"
So is my car just some Malibu lucky enough to get an SS 396 option package from factory or something?  

Your car's genuine. Basically, the SS396 option was bolted onto a Chvelle/Malibu.

I'm sure someone else on the board can give further details.
