hello i have a 1975 chevy el camino which i am building up pretty much as a fun projeect/street car to go burn some rice. but i may take it to the strip on rare occasions also. its not my main car so i could care less about gas mileage and such.


anyway, got a 350 that i just sent to get rebuilt, had a terrible knock and wasnt running right, doesnt help that the guy i bought it from had no idea what he was talking about and said the car was completely stock, obviously it wasnt.


i got it as a 350 with a q-jet carb running way rich, some cam, old headers, and a turbo 350 that shifts rough and retarded.

so i sent it to get rebuilt and it is now bored .60 over with flat top pistons, new heads, crank and cam and all that was reworked. pretty much a brand new engine. i m going to get a new carb, i planned on a 750 double pumper but was told the 725 demon carbs were good, any suggestions? looking for as much power as i can get.

it is an automatic car, i would like to have a stick though, i dont know how much trouble that would be though...would it even be worth it? if i stay with it auto i am going to get a turbo 400 with a shift kit and stall converter and all that.


and currently it has a non-posi 10 bolt rear end. i was considering getting a 12 bolt posi with 4:11 or 4:56 gears, would a 12 bolt be better than a 10 bolt? i know literally nothing about rear end stuff.

For a 350 like yours, you don't need a double pumper, and I'd stay away form the BArry Grant Carb too.  

A good vacuum secondary 650 CFM Holley, Q-Jet, or AFB will do just fine for your Elky.

Yes, a 12-bolt is always better than a 10-bolt, stronger and more reliable, but with the right internals, the 8.5" 10-bolt your Elky has will be plenty strong enough for the street.

As for rear gear, you need ot pick a gear that mtaches your cam and transmission gear ratios. With gas being sky high, I'd recommend nothing above a 3.73 rear gear.  

yeah. im going pretty much for the most muscle i can pump out of here, like i said its not anywhere near my main car so i could care less about gas.  

would a 12 bolt posi rear end from a 71 chevelle fit my 75 el camino?
