Some of you may have added the ADDCO sway bars to coupe models or even Z28's.  There is an inherient design flaw that will give you trouble.

I have written my trouble I discovered to ADDCO.  They basically replied back that what I said was a "non-issue".

So, if you have added ADDCO sway (or anti-sway) bars, this is the issue and what can happen............

The front bar is fine and mounted fine.  The rear bar is the one that will fail.

This is mostly for you guys that are like me and want everything to be perfect and perform perfect.  Not just "close enough"....

The problem with the rear sway bar is that they come loose and spin on the axle.  The mounting bracket that is supposed to hold the bar to the rear axle will spin.  To try to prevert it from spinning, you have to over-tighten the nuts which cause the bushings to fail very prematurely and squeek noticeable in the meantime.  Like an old "junker" instead of a hot sports car.

The problem is this.  The originaly rear bar was mounted to the axle using something like a muffler bracket.  It is the same diameter as the rear axle.  It also has a small "notch" cut in the center to align with the small metal piece welded to the axle.  This keeps the mounts from "spinning" on the rear axle.

The ADDCO kit supplies a U-shaped mount.  It has "squared" edges.  It's like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole and keep it aligned.  It's impossible to do.

The "fix" is to cut part of the old muffler-looking bracket off with the square cut-out in the center and weld it to the ADDCO square U-bracket.  This will keep the entire assy from spinning on the axle in tight corners.

It is very easy to modify the bracket ADDCO supplied and make your car perform better.  You will find that your handling will increase.  You also will find that your don't have to tighten the nuts as extremely tight as you did before.  This will keep the bushing from "squeeking" as it probably does now.

I have performed this task on both my Camaros.   The infernal "squeek" the bars made is now gone.  The handling is definitely improved.
