I have a pro built 572 BBC. I will run a vacuum pump but the question is where to pull the vacuum from. Typically, one of the valve covers is plumbed but I had another thought. Since I will be running electric fuel pumps, the mech. fuel pump boss is blocked off. So the thought of plumbing the block off plate instead of the valve cover came to mind. Has this been done, thought of, dismissed or whatever? And will there be too little/enough/too much oil splash for the vacuum pump? Your thoughts please. Thx

there is a ton of oil spray off the timing chain in that area... probable not a great spot for a vacu sump system...
where does the pro engine builder think the vacuum should be sourced from...
i personally think 1/3rd of the way back on the top of the valve covers... maybe on the intake side of the valve cover as that is where cad already put breathers there... but not at the front and not at the rear as any oil slosh could get into the lines to the vacuum pump.....
just my opinion...

there is a ton of oil spray off the timing chain in that area... probable not a great spot for a vacu sump system... ________ Actually the timing chain, (actually using gear), is on one side of the front of the block and the boss opens to the other side of the front of the block so im unclear about this point. ---------------------------------------------------- where does the pro engine builder think the vacuum should be sourced from... ________ Haven't talked w/him in a while. If no answer here, he's my last resort. ---------------------------------------------------- i personally think 1/3rd of the way back on the top of the valve covers... maybe on the intake side of the valve cover as that is where cad already put breathers there... but not at the front and not at the rear as any oil slosh could get into the lines to the vacuum pump..... ________ I was trying to stay away from the valve covers for looks and maintenance reasons, (solid roller lifters are fun but require that special touch every so often. Also, as I understand it the pump needs a little oil for lube and to help create the vacuum so a cover over the hole on the inside of the valve cover to prevent "large" amts of oil is needed.
Thx for the ideas. Keep them coming.

the fuel pump is mounted on the drivers side front of the engine block... and you are right .,... it might be a good place to get some extra lube for the vacuum pump... since you are running gears instead of a timing chain... you should be ok... especially since it is not on the same side as the opening...
again just a thought.,...

I believe i see the source of the confusion ... BBC = Big Block Chevy The block is a Mark IV chevy block. This is NOT a caddy block. Thx anyway.
