I have a 1962 327 that was originally a 300 HP that was removed from a 1962 Nova SS, that was wrecked. I want to know what is the difference between the 300 HP and the 365 HP versions of the engine. I have changed the cam to the same unit is used in the 365 HP engine.. additionally I would like to know how to do an estimated horsepower rating based on the original engine rating with all the current modifications that I have done, which are bored .060 with 11 to 1 compression pistons, double hump heads (300 hp) cut .020 and ported, headers, Wieand Alum. HI-Rise Intake, (from 68 302 Z-28 engine), Holley 780CFM Dual Line Carb, roller rocker arms, and 365HP cam and solid lifters.

Difference is the cam and as far as I have seen the 365HP came with 2.02/1.60 valves and the 300HP came with 1.94/1.50 valves. What is the casting numbers on the heads and do you know the size of the valves in the heads now.

The other thing is, the 300 HP motor had a hydraulic cam, the 365 HP motor used a solid lifter cam.

I am not sure of the size Valves currently in the heads, But I will find out. The Cam is a solid lifter TRW unit....and is supposed to be the closest thing to the cam used by GM in the 365 HP engine that TRW produces. I will reply back as soon as I have the Valve data, I do know the heads have been shaved .020, and ported....but not sure if the larger valves were installed at that time, these items were done before I purchased the engine.
