This is my first time posting so take it easy on me. I’m not a motorhead but my son is. I bought him a 69 Camaro (base model) 5 yrs ago and now it’s time to start working on it. I’ve been researching engines and came across several companies one of which I like the engine a 383 / 450hp turnkey. The builder is www.enginefactory.com. How can I find out their reputation and if it is a good deal? Also planning on a new 5-6 speed TREMEC , and probably a 10 – 12 bolt Ford rearend. I would appreciate any feedback and or help. I’m on a limited budget but want a good engine with both HP and torque and able to handle either NOS or a blower in the future. Luckily I have three friends back home that are car savvy that will be helping me put the car together.

Well first of all great pick on the 69 Camaro beautiful car. Secondly, 10 and 12 Bolt rear ends are only gm products like chevrolet, pontiac and so forth but the Ford 9 inch would work but it would be a lot of work. A gm 12 bolt would do just fine. Less expensive and you don't have any problems aligning the driveshaft. With the transmission that you want the rear end should probably be around 3.27 or 3.30 for good off the line and top speed. Later on if you do NOS or a blower that might have to change but for now its perfect. The engine you have now will not hold a blower you would have to rebuild it with stronger parts. The 5 speed would be a better transmission for the car, low rpms with a better kick. Have fun building it!

Best thing to do is get local info on that engine builder. Sometimes that's tough to do until you're up to your neck deep with them on your build. Otherwise get a crate engine from GMPP such as an HT383 or Dart's Little M block. The Dart's more expensive but it's pretty much bullet proof in my opinion. Also find yourself a reputable local machine shop that has a lot of experience in high performance work. They can answer a lot of the tough questions for you from experience. I'd go with the GM 12-bolt rear end over the 10-bolt personally. Take a look at Currey or Moser for even stronger mods to this excellent GM axle. Hope this helps you some.
