It's a 454, good power is no problem! I think from the factory that motor made 290 HP. That's with the weak factory roller cam. Those are good heads, so they'll breath pretty well for the street and make lots of bottom end power. Factory compression should be 9:1
I good roller cam running about .500" lift with the right intake and carb, a set of roller rockers, good springs, and you should make 400 HP easy.
To see how much cam your engine will take, you need to see how much valve travel you have before the bottom of the retainer hits the valve guide.

hello. well i am new to here but not new to building vehicles, own my own company since 1991 building and repairing vehicles, and all our motors we build for our customers here we use (DYNO 2000 advance engine simulator)for sale from Motion Software, Inc. 535 West Lambert Road, Building “E” Brea, California 92821-3911 Voice: 714-255-2931, Fax: 714-255-7956 Web: www.motionsoftware.com Email: support@motionsoftware.com great product and you build the engine on computer before you waste your money chasing comments and what others have to say. and than you get the exact part numbers from the product you use to build the engine with, when you are done you have the engine you want, without a waste of you hard earned money, hope this helps bill jr Bill's Auto & Truck

The best thing is a bigger cam. Since the factory cam is so mild, a basic cam swap will probably get you 50 HP right out of the box.
