I just cant figure out why my 350 wont run proper. First of all its a 350 stock pistons, rods, and crank. i replaced all the bearings and rings in the motor. The heads are GM 882's grinded and ported to the gasket. My cam is a comp with 490 lift and 294 duration (witch is probably a little too big) i have dynmax headers, and a holley street dominator intake with the stock rochester sitting on top (wich i soon hope to upgrade to a 650 dbl pump). I replaced plugs , wires and put a MSD flame thrower kit in the distributer. i went with the copper springs for the andvance wich is supposed to be 23 degrees at 3000 rpm and i set the vacuum advance to add another 8. Now ive gone over everything the cam is timed right, the lobes are fine everything is good but when i drive the car it is gutless! it idles perfect, About 800 rpm, and doesnt stall in gear. My tranny is a THM 350 with a 2500 stall(wich should be higher) and ive got 2.52 gears in the back. When i pull the vacuum line off the distributor advance(which is all new) and plug it off the car idles down yet. i had my timming at 13 degrees at idle and the car had a real rough idle. So when i went to check the advance it would advance about 4 degrees the flutter back and fourth and not advance no more(without the vacuum hooked up) SO i advance it as much as i could and the rough idle went away and she runs smooth now. But it still cant do a burnout in my garage(wich is maybe cause the gears are to high?). Any ways i havent had time to test drive it yet like this but i still think it needs some work. I need as much help as i can get, has anyone else had problems like this? I know this is long but i cant figure it out any replies are appreciated, Thanks in a advance, Jake

hey, first of all the 70's model of chevrolet camaro really didnt have that much power any ways alot if that is because its so much heavyer than 60s models and they changed the design of the motors in 1970. But there is hope!!! you can change out your stock crank with a 400 small block crank with 350 pistons and turn it into a 383 and if you have a duel plane intake manifold i would goto a single plane. and you really need to get rid of that Quadrojunk I would either say to get a Edelbrock performer series carb with a 1 inch spacer (you might have to cut your hood but it will look awesome)and with that carb i would go to a junk yard and find an old holly carb and use the floats from them. Im guessing you have a 3 speed turbo transmission... if you do i would say try to get a six speed racing transmission with a slap shift and finally i would get a 12 bolt racing rear end. and if you do that you with have the race car of your dreams.

No wander you have a stone. Waaaay too much cam. Way too tall a gear. With the cam your running it would take at least a 4:11 or 4:56 gear and a 4 speed to wake this thing up and then you'd have to do some suspension work to get it to hook up. I really don't have a problem with the tranny and converter provided the converter is really 2500 stall. Before you spend you'r life savings I would recommend a cam with no more than 270 duration and .470 lift for the the rest of your combination. You'd still have to drop the rear end down to around 3:55 to get it to run well. For eference 350 Lt-1 were stormers from the factory but the didn't even reach the specs of your cam.
