i have  a 91  camaro im fixing up for my son. the 305 is lame and dead. i have a 350 /350 hp 4 barrel motor from my personal stash that i want to put in this car  but i will be using the 305 heads, intake, exaust manifolds to retain the emissions.
my question is the block is a 1970 4 bolt main, with a 2 piece rear main seal. and it takes a 168 tooth flywheel /flexplate.  will that flexplate bolt up to the 700 r4 . i recently replaced a 7oor4 in a pickup with a turbo 350 bolted right up.i cant see why the oposite wouldnt be true . the question is , what is the  bolt pattern on the 700r4 converter, as i will be using a flexplate from the a 350 which came with a turbo 350 and i hope this will bolt to the 700r4 , but im not posotive
any help would be appriciated

As long as the flywheel is the same diameter, it will bolt up. The starter is gonna be the key. You'll need to get a starter that matches up to the motor, NOT the car. The bolt pattern on the converter is the same.

Bad news, you can't use those 305 heads on the 350. The combustion chamber is way too small because of the small bore on the 305.

I'm working on a similar project with a '92 Camaro. If you want to keep the emissions equipment, just transfer the exhaust manifolds, intake, and front accesory drives from the 305 to the 350. You'll need the intake from the 305 so you can keep the EGR valve.

actually ive used 305 heads on  a 350 in the past and never had a problem. the small combustion chamber just ups the compression , not a bad thing , as far as the bore size, as long as the  head gaskets are for a 350 its not  a problem. i use fel pro perma torque  gaskets the gasket height is also factored into the combustion chamber size since it is taking up room.in essance its like shaving the heads on a  flat head motor. instead of making the piston have a dome you make the chamber smaller. i think the 305 has a 55 cc chamber actually the smallest of most small blocks.oldies a re ussually 64 cc  and some are 76 cc i used this idea befor and it works well , you just have to make it so the engine can rev   i. e cam specs
the starter is not a problem got the whole motor from the 350 including all the accesories starter ,water pump , ect .
when im done i want this thing to look stock under the hood but with some balls to it.  thanks for the info on the flexplate deal im a 4 speed person myself and i would have a 6 speed in it if it was mine . hehe!

draco, i'm no expert but, i have a 305 tbi, the heads suck bad. stock L98 heads are way better unless you really want 305 heads then i'd say Lg4. 305 tpi heads have different flow rate. the general really screwed us on the Lo3 motors. something like 100000 camaros in 92 had them installed alone, thats why there cheap.

The other head option is to get a set of Vortec 305 heads from a 96-98 chevy truck. Then you'd just need to get a TBI manifold with the Vortec bolt pattern, and you're good to go. I think the Edelbrock and GM Performance parts TBI manifolds have the Vortec bolt pattern on them.
