Another question... I am in the process of restoring my truck and I dont want to spend a fortune on it cuz I'm broke and have to pay for college. I want to do as much of the work myself as possible. I was wondering: 1. Should I strip everything down to clean metal before I prime it? 2. Would it be wise to purchase a sandblasting kit? 3. Can I purchase a paint gun and paint the truck myself? 4. If so, which brand and size should I get? 5. What Is a good way to patch the holes in the rear corners of the cab floor. 6. Fiberglass fenders are cheaper than OE metal, but will it really matter which one I put back on?
I dont want to be a pain, but It's only me and my Dad workin' on this so we don't know too much about it. Any help will be appreciated.
I have a 61 Chevy Apache 10, and a 1981 Camaro... what about you?

You should always clean off as much of the old paint as possible before priming. If you don't, this asks for paint bubbles later on.
Better than sand blasting is the new soda blasting method. It's environmentally safe, and cheap.
You can buy a paint gun and suplies yourself to paint the truck, but you need ot have an air compressor with enough PSI to run the paint gun continually, and also a place to paint the truck that's free from dust, dirt, and grit.
Rear corner cab floor holes, tough to fix, I'd say your best bet is to hand shape some sheetmetal replacement pieces (if you can't find donor pieces, or even new ones) and weld them in. You could use fiberglass too, but the metal will look better.
For the fenders, stick with steel.
My best advice I can give you is always keep the truck running. You always have more motivation to finish a car project if it's used at least once a week to drive someplace. A non-running car has a tendency to sit too long!

Hi, 61crazy here; your ideas on items 1-4 are the way to go in my opinion and the suggestion of 55Guy on the cab corners is great(just remember it is only metal, so if you mess up just build another piece and add it in) As for #5, steel fenders are the way to go; fiberglass will eventually crack and look bad. Here are several web-sites to try: www.truckandcarshop.com , www.lmctruck.com , www.harmons.com. I am building a 61 Impala now but have built several 67-72 Chevy trucks in the past.

Thanks alot to both of you. Both LMC truck and Jc whitney sell cab corners cheap. But I dont think It will come near to covering the whole rusted out place.
