Hi, I am looking for some help, I am currently restoring a 1980 camaro and need help with what type of 4 speed manual transmission will work well with a 327 motor. I am not racing but If I would like to get on it once and awhile, and what would I need to do with the stock rear end?
Thanks Mike

The good news is you have an '80 Camaro. The better news is that car has a 8.5-inch 10-bolt rear. The best news is for that car you pretty much have your choice of good reliable four-speeds.
For the transmission, I'd recommend finding a Super T-10 or an M-21. A built regular T-10 with good performance internals would also work, and if you hit the jackpot and could find a good M-22 to install, that'd be even better. Any of these will bolt up behind your 327.
For the rear, your car should have the 8.5-inch 10-bolt rear. This is a good rear, and strong enough for what you're doing with some simple mods, depending on your budget. A covr girdle would be a good thing to start. Next would be aftermarket axles with more strength, then an aftermarket carrier from Auburn Gear, with one of their Posi units.

I agree with 55 guy on the Muncies being a great swap. But don't go below a 3.36 rear gear for a M21 or 22, you will hate having too long of a first gear. 3.36s work great with my M22, having a decent First gear and cruising RPMs at about 70 mph being at a reasonable 3000 RPM.
I would go with an Eaton posi unit over any other posi because they are rebuildable and very reliable.
