Camaro Performers had a readers ride that described not one but two 81 Z/28 ragtops. Has anyone ever seen one that was factory produced because I have not. The only one ever produced prior to 87 that I know of was a 1968 that was a dark blue with white interior and it is reported as a one of one. If this is a custom, it does'nt say ao, the reader might want to rethink his statement that it is totally stock. Any thoughts?  

This is totally bogus! There were no, I repeat, NO, 2nd Gen convertibles ever produced, outside of maybe some unknown guinea pig vehicle when they were designing the 2nd Gen cars. This is obviously a custom job of some sort. My compliments though, from the pics it looks like a *** good job!

If you look at Mike antonick's book "The Camaro White Book" if you look under 1981, only coupe models are listed for production.

The '68 you're talking about was in fact a one-off test vehicle Chevy made in '67 or '68. Super Chevy ran a story on this car a few years ago. All the codes and everything are correct on the car for a Z28, and if I rememebr correctly the cowl tag had the correct markings for a GM test vehicle, thoguh I'm not sure on that one. I am sure about the fact the car was proven to be a factory built piece.  

I am glad I am not the only one out here who caught this. I was begining to think I had missed something somewhere. I have a personal interest in these cars as I am an owner of 1967 base convertible. Ihave done quite a bit of research to enable me to better restore my camaro and I was begining to doubt my research efforts for a moment.  

there where 200 z-28's converted between 1979 to 1981. The convertible conversion was done by Michigan coach and sold through select chevy dealers.
