I have a 327 small journal +.030 what are my options
goal my brother has a 01 cobra mustang His words and I quote the only way that piece of ____ camaro with 327 would keep up is if I hooked a tow stap to it.
I like this block and do not want to kill it. From what research I have done 450hp is about it safely. Some have said 400max@10000 rpm some 600 with no real data.
Please help?

Is your block a two or four-bolt main piece?
The small journal blocks are fairly strong pieces, if you've got a four-bolt main even better. If you added a main girdle that will improve the strength and horsepower peak of the block, along with a forged crank.
What year manufacture is your block?

A side note. About the 327, they came from the factory up to 365 hp. Redlines were around 7000. In any Camaro, this is a lethal engine to be reconded with.
There were racing version of 327's over 400 Hp. These typically were with dual quads and not much power under 4000 Rpm's. I would think building up a 365 Hp 327 would be the ultimate.
About the Mustang friend, Ford VS Chevy has been around forever. If you look at any road test where they take the two "most comprable" models, the Camaro always wins. I have never seen a Ford win any competiton in any magazine. Except maybe in a Ford magazine.......
An anology I like to make is a Harley with a "stroker" kit. All a stroker Harley will beat is a non-stroked Harley. However, if you listen to these clowns, the more beer they drink, the more they "dust off" super bikes. Taint so........
My son has a Mustang and I have Camaros. Mine are V-6 while he has the old 302 V-8. When we race, he beats me but he does not blow me away like you think he would. He has spent a ton on handling, yet my V-6 Camaro (fitted with Z-28 sway bars and low profile 16's) out handles his car.
I would not back away from a 327 at all. They have a nice short stroke. 8000 Rpm's is very possible.
If you choose to build this engine, I would not recommned mix-matching a bunch of parts. I would pick a 327 that has a know Hp output, then build yours to that spec.

Whether you're a Ford guy or a Chevy guy, there's a lot of technology over the dam between the 327 era and an 01 Cobra.
I'm sure you can build the 327 strong enough to run with the Cobra but it'll cost a lot of bucks and probably won't last long.
I think you should just enjoy your historic motor and forget about running with Cobras or newer Chevy's with LS-1&4s.

I gotta agree with Bogie, I'd just build a good 400-425 HP small block that you can drive and enjoy more than once a month.
While your car may not have as much horsepower as others, if you build it to have superior handling and hooking ability, you can have the advantage because you'll be able to use all the horsepower your engine makes, while guys with more power spin the tires because their cars won't hook or handle in the turns.

this is a 1967 block casting #3903352 crank cast #4577 the block has approx 30000 original miles the crank from what I can find is a forged hi perf from gm it came out of a 1967 impalla ss fastback I may sell it, and go with a four bolt. what is a 327 worth? It was dipped and magnufluxed heads and block no cracks. I have the ***462 cast double hump heads, world sr torqer head 1.60-2.02 valves, the cast iron intake for qjet carb, edelbrock rpm airgap intake, and the power glide that was with it when we pulled it Sorry the car lowered in the dirt over 20+ year and did some bad rusting.
