Ok I just bought a used 1997 Z28 6spd,the first few days my coil went out my engine would shut off and It never started again.I took it to the dealer and they changed the coil and cleaned the fuel system. They said it had gunk build up in the throttle body.Ok I picked it up,it runs great but today I was driving to work when I felt some resistance and once I shifted to neatrul the engine shut off and the dash said check gauges.I didnt see anything the temp was ok.This is the same thing that happened right before my coil went out.HELP?

Is this not a Z28 with an LT-4? Doesn't it have multiple coil packs?
If so, did one or several coils go out?
If not, it's been modified by somebody to what configuration?
Does "I felt some resistance" mean the engine was loosing power?
Shifting into neutral while the car is coasting and the engine running will set all kinds of error codes. If you didn't do that and let it go till it quit, you'd probably get one or two codes. What you'll need to do is to have the codes read out on an OBD II reader. This will require a shop with this equipment as it's rather expensive stuff for the home enthusiast, but Harbor Freight sells some simple readers for 50 dollars or so. These will read the built in error diagnostics and usually give a pretty good indication as to where to look for the problems. Without going thru this stage, it’s pretty difficult to solve problems with these systems.
The problem is going to be figuring out which error codes are meaningful and which are just secondary or “junk” codes that popped because the primary failure and tossing it out of gear while still in motion caused. Obviously the dealer didn’t get to the “Root Cause” by cleaning the throttle body and replacing the coil(S). Coils are pretty robust to fail them something pretty serious with in their power supply needs to be wrong.

Thanks Bogie your alot of help.It happened again this morning this time I couldnt pop it back in gear to turn on I had to pull off the road.I waited a while and it started up again.I have been driving at 3000rpms could that be the problem I drove in 6th gear this morning the rest of the way to work and no problems at 2000rpm.I think its when I rev high RPMs.A car got next to me wanting to race so I punched it the high rpm's made it shut off again.

If this is a '97 Z28, then it's got a wonderful Opti-Spark system on it, unless it's got an LS motor for some reason.
Sounds like your problem could be, 1) The ignition unit is going bad, so when you run the car for a whiel and it heats up the thing takes a crap on you, 2) Possibly a clogged fuel filter, or maybe there's some trash in the tank that's causing fuel delivery problems, 3) Possibly the computer is havign a newrvous breakdown (seriously, the computer could be going bad), 4) You've got a sensor somewhere that's taking a dive and when it heats up the cars dies on you.
Does this happen anyitme when you drive the car, or is it under any specific circumstances? Looking back, is there any one common thing when the car died on you?
